Introduction Of CAPS
CAPS is a chemical compound primarily used as a biological buffer. It finds applications in biochemical diagnostic kits, DNA/RNA extraction kits, PCR diagnostic kits, enzyme chemistry, and as a buffer in HPLC separation of basic drugs.
Applications of CAPS
1. Use in Resin Compositions
Polyurethane resins are widely used across various industries. These resins are the reaction products of polyisocyanate components and polyol components. In recent years, to improve environmental sustainability and ease of use, there has been a growing demand to prepare polyisocyanates in the form of aqueous dispersions. A water-dispersible polyisocyanate component can be obtained by reacting pentamethylene-1,5-diisocyanate isocyanurate with 3-(cyclohexylamino)propanesulfonic acid, creating a polyisocyanate mixture. The sulfonic group in 3-(cyclohexylamino)propanesulfonic acid makes this polyisocyanate mixture water-dispersible. However, the application period of this route is insufficient, which is why patent CN116075535A provides an improved water-dispersible polyisocyanate, a waterborne polyurethane resin composition, and related articles. The water-dispersible polyisocyanate consists of a reaction product of a polyisocyanate component and a hydrophilic active hydrogen component.
The polyisocyanate component contains pentamethylene diisocyanate and polyisocyanates with six or more carbon atoms; the hydrophilic active hydrogen component includes sulfonic acid-containing active hydrogen compounds. Specifically, these compounds can be 2-(Cyclohexylamino)ethanesulfonic acid (CHES) and 3-(Cyclohexylamino)propanesulfonic acid (CAPS).
This water-dispersible polyisocyanate offers excellent curing performance, water dispersibility, and a prolonged application period.
2. Use in Biosensors
Biosensors are molecular measurement devices that use a detection unit, configured with biological substances like enzymes, and a transducer, such as an electrode, to analyze various biological target substances, such as glucose. A typical biosensor consists of an electrode and a reagent layer positioned on the electrode. One method of forming the reagent layer involves applying a reagent solution, containing redox enzymes and electron transfer substances, onto the electrode and allowing it to dry. Variations in the concentration or amount of the reagents in the reagent layer can cause uneven dissolution, leading to poor reproducibility in measurements. Therefore, patent CN116930285A provides a biosensor and its manufacturing method. This biosensor is composed of three main parts: the substrate, the conductive component, and the reagent layer. The reagent layer includes redox enzymes and electron transfer substances, as well as buffers, amino acids, surfactants, and binders.
The buffers used in this biosensor may include phosphate buffers, amine-based buffers, and buffers with carboxyl groups. The amine-based buffers could be Tris (Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane), ACES (N-(2-Acetamido)-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid), CHES (N-Cyclohexyl-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid), CAPSO (3-(Cyclohexylamino)-2-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonic acid), TAPS (N-Tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid), CAPS (N-Cyclohexyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid), Bis-Tris (Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)iminotris(hydroxymethyl)methane), TAPSO (2-Hydroxy-N-tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid), TES (N-Tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid), Tricine (N-[Tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl]glycine), and ADA (N-(2-Acetamido)iminodiacetic acid).
Compared to conventional biosensors, the biosensor described in this patent offers higher reproducibility and improved measurement accuracy.
